The pitfalls of digital media and how to revive creative energy

Social media, news, advertisements… Sometimes it feels everyone around us is trying to influence our minds and plant suggestions of what and how to think or feel, selling a product, a service or an opinion. The fact that in today’s world most of these influences are digital adds to the ease with which they spread and hook people.

Our minds are overwhelmed by the amount of information flooding them every day. Our souls are overwhelmed by emotions that rarely belong to us but are pushed onto us from the outside.
Even though we don’t see it, we often end up like leaves in a wind, and it takes lots of inner strength to hear our inner voice and remain true to ourselves.
And our creativity suffers as a result.
Creativity needs space to bloom. In a flooded mind, there is little room for it to spark and grow. In a soul that’s full to the brim, it’s difficult, if not impossible, for it to spread its wings and soar.
And then we sit in front of a blank page or stare at a fresh canvas and the muse is not coming.
Is it the dreaded author’s or creative block? Or is it rather the fact that our cup is too full and we need to empty it first before we can create again?
Try it.
For at least one day, turn off your phone, get away from the Internet, forget that social media exist. Don’t even turn on the TV or the radio.
If you can, leave the city and stay for a day or more somewhere in the middle of nature, far from civilization, its notifications and noise.

Listen to the waves, the wind, the birds,
the bees.
Walk under the trees, through meadows, slowly, without a goal.
Sink your feet in a stream.
Climb mountains. Watch the stars.
Smell the flowers.
Breathe
Just—be.
Without expectations, without plans.
It’s not easy if you are not used to it. Similar to meditation, you might get restless, nervous, flooded with thoughts. But if you persevere and learn to let go and sink into the stillness, you’ll be rewarded.
Your creativity will be reborn.
